What is Ethereum?

It is a very popular cryptocurrency, one that offers a high return on investment – this is Ethereum.

Ethereum has managed to become the most profitable asset among over 1000 cryptocurrencies in 2017. Within as little as one year its price shot by 6000%! And even though it is not as popular as BTC, it is certainly doing very well, and many consider it to be the decentralised network of the future as it has managed to reach an astounding capitalisation value.

It is important to note that Project Ethereum differs from Bitcoin. It appeared back in 2013 through a Canadian programmer, Vitalik Buterin. He won a grant when he was merely 20 years old to implement this project, and eventually later in 2015 Ethereum was opened to third-party users.

Ethereum is a platform which allows for the creation of decentralised online services. These are based on the blockchain.

Ethereum coins are not limited as Bitcoins are. However in the future, developers are planning to limit issuing, and to have extra Ethereum extracted from the system.

The system operated on the EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) which is basically a huge distributed computer network. There are many smart contracts, which are essentially mini programs which solve a variety of tasks.

The Ethereum platform advantages include:
- System operation will not end up getting terminated in case of a failure in a part of the chain
- No outsider can manage to make changes to the system, and a minority will not be in a position to make adjustments either

On the other hand there are also various disadvantages, such as:
- Cases of Ethereum hacking have been quite numerous
- Security could be improved
- Poor data protection due to mixers
- Poor scalability
- Considerably costly for miners

Ethereum’s prospects are very optimistic, according to many analysts. It is predicted that the coin will continue to grow in the future, and more and more crypto startups are choosing Ethereum.
