Based on the total market capitalization of its listed securities, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is the world's largest equities-based exchange. Following the acquisition of the electronic trading exchange Archipelago on March 8, 2006, the NYSE became a public company. A 2007 merger with Euronext led to the creation of NYSE Euronext, which was later acquired by Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE), the current parent company of the New York Stock Exchange.
