Typically, an acquisition is performed to control and capitalize on the acquired company's strengths, as well as to achieve synergies. Combinations of businesses can take the form of acquisitions (in which both businesses survive), mergers (in which only one business survives), or amalgamations (in which neither business survives).

Acquisition alludes to the strategic move of one organization purchasing one more organization by acquiring significant stakes of the firm. As a rule, organizations obtain an existing business to share its client base, activities and market presence. It is one of the famous methods of business development.
