Market Profiles are specialized charts that help traders understand price movements and trading volumes in a particular market. J. Peter Steidlmayer is a well-known author and independent trader for the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), which was launched in 1984.

Steidlmayer devised the Market Profile Chart for displaying price acceptance or rejection across time using a graphical distribution. The introduction of market profile charts also enhanced traders' understanding of markets and opened the door for more reasonable market analysis.
