What is dogecoin?
Developed in 2013 by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, two software developers, Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency. Based on the Shiba Inu meme, Palmer tweeted about creating a doge-themed cryptocurrency.

In response to Palmer's post, Marcus began working on Dogecoin. Dogecoin is a fork of Lucky Coin, which is a fork of Bitcoin, and so Dogecoin's code is not incorrectly based on that of Bitcoin.

Dogecoin was launched after Markus modified important pieces of Bitcoin's first software. Markus spent just three hours developing and releasing Dogecoin. Palmer was then hired to work on the project.

It operates on a decentralized blockchain network, similar to Bitcoin, enabling peer-to-peer transactions without the need for intermediaries. Dogecoin's distinguishing features include its fast transaction times and low fees. While initially created as a joke, Dogecoin has gained popularity and acceptance as a form of payment and tipping currency, fueled by its supportive community and occasional endorsements from public figures.
